Chasm Lake 5/26/06
IMO this is the best hike in the park. The trail starts out steep, but changes with each mile. First there is a stream that is split around the little island, then the alpine bridge right before treeline. After you endure the steps up Mills Moraine, you enjoy the best view in the whole park-Longs Peak and Meeker. I could sit at Chasm Junction all day, but Chasm Lake was waiting. As we crossed Mt. Lady Washington, there was a bit of snow on the last part of the trail. That challenged me, but Alan was practically jogging. Chasm Lake was mostly frozen over and beautiful. We snapped some pics and Alan had some fun posing with his Red Stripe. The best part of the day, was the smell. I have missed the rich mountain air hiking this winter. The smell of the pines was awesome. We had beautiful weather too.
